Job Announcement – Director of Forest Operations & Environmental Programs

The Washington Forest Protection Association (WFPA) seeks a highly skilled and motivated Director of Forest Operations & Environmental Programs to provide scientific and technical leadership on forest management and the implementation of Washington’s Forest Practices rules and related state and federal requirements. This critical role supports WFPA’s policy and regulatory priorities by translating science, operational realities, and compliance constraints into clear, credible recommendations for WFPA staff, member companies, and decision-makers.

The Director will evaluate the operational and economic implications of policy proposals, identify feasible alternatives, and help shape solutions that protect public resources while maintaining a viable forest products industry. The position also plays a central role in monitoring and responding to proposed rules and guidance, developing WFPA technical comments and briefings, supporting member implementation questions, and representing WFPA in technical and regulatory forums.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Forest Policy, the Director serves as staff to the WFPA Forest Policy Committee, Executive Committee, Board of Trustees, and associated task groups and ad hoc committees.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on Washington’s working forests by advancing science-based, operationally workable forest policy—grounded in on-the-ground implementation realities and credible technical analysis.
